Competing Matchmakers: An Experimental Analysis

چکیده
Platform competition is ubiquitous, yet platform market structure is little understood. Theory models typically su¤er from equilibrium multiplicity platforms might coexist or the market might tip to either platform. We use laboratory experiments to study the outcomes of platform competition. When platforms are primarily vertically di¤erentiated, we nd that even when platform coexistence is theoretically possible, markets inevitably tip to the more e¢ cient platform. When platforms are primarily horizontally di¤erentiated, so there is no single e¢ cient platform, we nd strong evidence of equilibrium coexistence. Competing Matchmaking
We study how competing matchmakers use prices to sort participants into search markets, where they form random pairwise matches, and how equilibrium outcomes compare with monopoly in terms of prices, search market structure and sorting efficiency. The role of prices to facilitate sorting is compromised by the need to survive price competition. We show that the competitive outcome can be less ef...
متن کاملOverview of the S3 Contest: Performance Evaluation of Semantic Service Matchmakers
This chapter provides an overview of the organisation and latest results of the international contest series on semantic service selection (S3). In particular, we introduce its publicly available S3 evaluation framework including the standard OWL-S and SAWSDL service retrieval test collections OWLS-TC and SAWSDLTC as well as its retrieval performance evaluation tool SME2. Further, we classify a...
متن کاملSemantic Web Service matchmakers: state of the art and challenges
Web services provide a standard means for the interoperable operations between electronic devices in a network. The mission of Web service discovery is to seek an appropriate Web service for a service requester on the basis of the service descriptions in Web service advertisements and the service requester’s requirements. Nevertheless, the standard language used for encoding service description...
متن کاملThe Matchmaker’s Dilemma
Matchmaking is a complex process and requires tremendous expertise. Matchmakers in various industries often advertise proprietary technologies that would presumably help users find an ideal match in a shorter period of time. However, matchmakers might seek to deliberately reduce their matchmaking effectiveness because users would thus remain clients for a longer time and hence pay more fees. Th...
متن کاملIntroduction to Competing Risk Model In the Epidemiological Research
Background and aims: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a public health challenge worldwide, with adverse consequences of kidney failure, cardiovascular disease (CVD), and premature death. Chronic kidney disease leads to the end stage of renal disease (ESRD), if late/not diagnosed. Competing risk modeling is a major issue in Epidemiology research. In Epidemiology study, sometimes inappropriate met...
